Playboy TV will be probably the first TV company to let its customers pay for subscription with cryptocurrencies. On March 14, the premium network announced that it will accept digital currency for its adult entertainment programming. Playboy’s online wallet will be launched within this year.
Reena Patel, Chief Operations Officer, Licensing and Media for Playboy Enterprises, explained the decision of the company as a response to global trends. "As the popularity of alternative payment methods continues to grow around the world, along with the reach Playboy's digital platforms, we felt it was important to give our 100 million monthly consumers increased payment flexibility," Patel said in a press release.
The company’s wallet will initially support Vice Industry Token (VIT), which is specifically created for the adult content. According to the press release, users will get possibility to earn VITs by taking different actions on the channel, including commenting on and voting for content.
Playboy also intends to expand the use of cryptocurrency for its gaming, augmented reality, and virtual reality platforms.
